2013 Teachers Class (Subjected to members who finished Phase X)
Another New Challenge Will Begin
Teachers Class this year will take place at the Japanese Embroidery Center in Atlanta from October 28 through 31, 2013. We can say that numerous types of teaching have been used in this class for the past 20 years.
For those who would like to try their own designs, they may come a day early, October 27, and start that designing process. The posted image is one template an individual can work on.
As Mr. Shuji Tamura introduced in Winter 2013 issue of Nuido journal, in Teachers Class this year, we attempt to create designs, going beyond technique and color selections. It is the next step toward a new stage of skills, based on the quality of the techniques we have learned to this point. JEC workshop members have come up with the curriculum for the class.
During the teachers class, we had a show and tell of designs which participants have brought. Learning from colleagues is always a part of the class.
Here's another snapshot of designs which teachers/advanced stitchers have brought to 2013 Teachers class. Pardon me for the reflections.
Every effort really paid for the final result.
This is another closeup image of design brought for the presentation in 2013 Teachers Class. The design was proposed in previous teachers class. Combination of color dye and embroidery gives indescribable beauty. On some part, the embroidery is stitched over the dye to create dimension which can never be expressed only by threads.
Another 2013 teachers class was held from Dec 2 to Dec 6. This Autumn Poem Paper design has maple, fan, and creek motifs. Stitcher has done a great job for selecting colors and applying techniques.
Let your creativity explore...
This Nuido stitcher in 2013 Teachers Class received a hint from traditional geometric pattern for the forehand fan design.
It is a time consuming process to decide what geometric design is suitable, but is very fulfilling.
The top fan design was already transferred, but stitcher is responsible for color scheming. One have to make sure colors are suitable and balanced for this particular motifs.
We can't wait to see the finished design!
Snapshot of another splendid trial during Teachers Class.
This stitcher managed to combine separated layer technique (feathers) and realistic technique (neck and chest) to express the crane. Color of the plum blossoms seems to moderate the whole atmosphere.
This is another snapshot from 2013 Teachers Class.
This stitcher has applied guideline stitch first with white thin threads and embroidered with gold threads later. The guidelines will be taken off later.
Stitching geometric patterns requires tremendous preparation and effort!
This is another snapshot of past teachers class.
For new year, Japanese often use pines for decoration. The Majorica #1 thread is used for the lattice on top of the foundation. Combination of gold color silk and the metallic threads seems to collaborate each other to produce gorgeous atmosphere on traditional fan design.
Delicacy of Fan design are successfully expressed by thinner thread.
In teachers class, it is important for instructors to grasp the difference between the embroidery with delicacy and regular stitching.
We believe it takes quite some time to master it.
