2012 Bead Embroidery Special Project (All 2012 classes are ended)

The special project this time is this elegant cushion, Exotic Elegance. Besides our regular glass seed beads, Reiko Matsukawa chose to use real gold beads and rare crystal beads that she has found in Japan. Don’t miss this precious opportunity!

Bead Class 2010

In addition to its traditional five phases of beads instruction, JEC offers a special project every year for the student who wishes to work on unusual and challenging designs . The special project for 2009 is Flower Mist Rising  Handbag (please see below for image and details). We hope you will join us as we bead this gorgeous and challenging new piece by Matsukawa-san.

Bead Embroidery Special Project 2010
Enchantment HandbagGolden Handbag

For year 2010, Ms. Matsukawa is bringing her special projects the lovely handbags above, Enchantment (left) and Golden Handbag (right).

Enchantment displays a background of white beads and a repeating pattern of jewel-toned beads, creating the look of elegant architecture that one might see in a European castle. All the jewel-motifs are surrounded by gold and topaz beads. On the reverse side is a single jewel motif on a ground of white. The bag is finished with a silver decorative clasp and a white beaded flexible handle.

Golden Handbag is a small clutch with a gold braided-chain handle. The highlight of this charming bag is the use of real gold beads in a fern-like motif within a diamond-shape grid. At the base of the fronds is an accent of three berries. To complement the gold beads, silver and irridescent beads are also used. Stitching this purse is certain to make you feel special just creating it.

Special Project 2009 – Flower Mist Rising handbag

Ms. Reiko Matsukawa’s newest design, Special Project 2009 Flower Mist Rising handbag will be taught. This was originally introduced in the bead class which was held in August last year, and drew many people’s attention—a lot more than Ms. Matsukawa expected!
The fabric used for the bag is a pale lavender color, and the beads go from light to dark shades of lavender. The raised technique shows the movement of the flower motif, while silver beads outline the flower shapes and complement the silver acorn clasp. The design background is composed entirely of 3-cut beads, offering a brilliant contrast to the smooth round beads used for the flower shapes. Instead of using a cord or chain, the handle of the purse is beaded as well, so the lady who carries the purse may enjoy the coolness and texture of the beads.

Special Project 2008 – Wave Purse

Special project for 2008, Wave Purse (see image below), will be taught at the class this year. Introduced last year at Bead Class, we already have many students looking forward to beading this design. There are three colorways available for this pattern: navy blue as seen below, green, and gunmetal. While each purse uses only a single color, the different sizes and types of beads used provide texture and interest to the design.
