The Hammered Wheel, when used as a family crest, depicts a wooden hammer attached to a wheel. The motif carries the dual meaning of "to strike" or "to win" and was frequently employed in the crests of samurai families.

It is believed to have been adopted as a family crest due to its auspicious nature, symbolizing the ability to summon fortune, much like swinging a magic mallet. Historical records show that it appears in a family crest book from the Edo period. Furthermore, it is considered a symbol of good fortune because it is an item associated with the deity Daikokuten.

This auspicious motif was also widely incorporated into kimono designs during the Edo period.
